Thing 11 thing 12 LinkedIn

23 things for research asks..."Do you think these tools offer a good way to present your professional profile, or do you prefer something else (a website, blog, etc.) If you use Facebook, do you feel that LinkedIn or Academia.edu are a suitable alternative space for professional activities, or do you find Facebook works just as well if not better for what you want to do?"

I use LinkedIn, think it is a good thing to have, and that it is important to update. Also it's great to see there is an option to speak about your project. For example I have just finished my пятилетка (five year plan) and I was very happy to show this on LinkedIn.

I also really like the discussion forums, I subscribed to a few, and it is great to hear from librarians all over the world discuss one particular issue.

If I were an Academic I don't think that would be enough, I would indeed promote myself, like this

In the States, many universities (for example Stanford are now offering to link your LinkedIn with their job pages...hopefully this will come one day here.Would be very nice perhaps if someone from OUCS, oops sorry IT Services was to surf the American web to see what's up there. Web 2.0 benchmarking is important. Especially not far from San Francisco... as most web 2.0 latest are from there (do correct me if I am wrong). For librarians Australia is worth checking out, and for language librarians (a rare species I'm afraid) Canada is great, as it provide great example of perfectly bilingual websites.
