Thing 7 Twitter

"Think about Twitter and how you think it may or may not be relevant to you. Do you feel it’s useful? Why or why not? Tag your post ‘Thing 7′."

Yes I like twitter, use it a lot, following many librarians (and thanks to that, I was able to contact someone for a particular problem earlier this year), many specialised librarians, for example copyright experts, following CILIP (the Librarians' Association), sometimes participating in chats, such as the Thursday evening Chartership chat (the Chartership process is something every librarian must do to become a Chartered Member of CILIP) as a mentor, and yes, using twitter in conferences, it allows you to get connected to more people with the same interests and also to think out loud questions related to the talk currently happening. (on a personal point of view, I have also used twitter for poetry... tricky to use only 140 signs to express something...:-)

For something happening in the world, it's the greatest way to know before it becomes official (the last presidential French elections for example with fantastic coded messages with #radiolondres, an homage to the messages sent by the resistance from the BBC in London during the last world war) or more recently #sandy

One thing I need to do: do a #oxengage search and... follow all the people from there. Done.

I also have a twitter account for the library, an occasion to upload lots of info... also all posts on the library blog are automatically uploaded to twitter. I sometimes also put my presentation (from google docs) there, and when I purchase material from amazon or others, I sometimes put it there.

A health and safety issue: mind your thumbs when you are twittering at conferences... perhaps it is best to use a tablet instead.
