ERASMUS help
From September to December this year, I have had some extra help with the presence of Valeria Ricci from Italy.
This is what she wrote about her experience:
"The best three months of my life
For three months I’ve been getting an insight into the work of a staff member at the Language Centre, especially in the library.
During my second week I’ve been trained as a library assistant, this was my main job during the internship as well as the place where I’ve spent most of my time.
My job was to provide support to the librarian by giving induction tour of the library to the students and by registering new visitors on the library system. Furthermore, I was in charge of placing back the different learning materials on the shelves and covering the librarian during her lunch break. I also helped students find materials on the shelves, helped the librarian in digitising audio-materials for the VLE (virtual learning environment) and was in charge of periodicals (getting them in the shop and placing them on the periodicals’ table)" (extract from Oxford University Language Centre blog)
Thanks to her help (Valeria did most library tours for Michaelmas Term!) I was able to concentrate on other parts of the job, which means that:

Thanks to her help (Valeria did most library tours for Michaelmas Term!) I was able to concentrate on other parts of the job, which means that:
- All new acquisitions have been catalogued (apart from 3 books: 2 in Japanese, 1 in Bengali)
- I have been able to concentrate more on library statistics(thanks also to our Oxford University internet in week 9)
- I have found the time to do my CILIP revalidation
- I have updated or created some work documents such as a contingency plan
- I have been able to give library presentations to 356 students in 39 different language classes
- And I found the time to go to the circulation and cataloguing meetings and the AAD briefing
