Inventory control IV
That's it. Finito! I wish I would do a little bit of scanning everyday but this will wait till next year when, I believe, I will do the reference book collection.
My outcomes are:
Mistakes not to be done again: always tidy a section before scanning it!
(makes it sooo much easier to find the problematic items later!)
My outcomes are:
Tidyer library: all DVDs, CDs and lending books (second part) are in alphabetical order by language, then by title.
Richer LSP (language for specific purposes) section: more books found for that particular section of the library and added to that special collection
Weeded library: some uncatalogued items were not worth processing. Some will be put on sales, some will be discarded or sent to charities (if legal/viable).
Small repairs: adding new barcodes, new shelfmarks labels, film labels
Towards complete open access: CD-ROMs catalogued if part of multiparts records
More training needed for Assistants for processing new materials: more precision in adding shelfmark, barcode, etc.
In future more accurate lending statistics: as all missing and uncatalogued items are properly processed
Ideas and knowledge: getting to know the books better helps with queries (ah... the famous "blue book"...), ideas for new blog posts (hashtag #loveourcollections) such as a Soviet theme (few books from that era kept as they look pretty and are good) or individuals’ #donations or #thebookthefilm, getting ideas for new acquisitions and weedings #lgbt #blackhistorymonth
Mistakes not to be done again: always tidy a section before scanning it!
(makes it sooo much easier to find the problematic items later!)
And my thanks go to... (sounds like the Oscars no? ;-) )
The Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services members Chris Hargreaves, Sara Burnell and Katherine Ferguson. Thank you guys for putting up with me over the years!
