Inventory Control III
Yes I am still here, alive. I have survived the first week and really happy so far.
I have done the whole DVD collection, including the EURECAP collection. Of course there are items not scanned, the items borrowed, and I'm afraid, surely, some items missing because they were stolen.
Having said that, I'm sure to find a few DVDs lost in the CD section later.
So this week I have started the book section. So far so good, I have done all lending books collection till German. My thumbs are feeling funny though. I have to take more breaks: books are heavier than DVDs!
It is strongly recommended that the books are properly shelved before scanning. I understand that now. I find it difficult to find the "item is not in the database" items, ie the ones not catalogued.
Seeing your collection slowly like that is great I find. Never during the year would I have the time to reflect like this on each book, each DVD. It helps me:

Seeing your collection slowly like that is great I find. Never during the year would I have the time to reflect like this on each book, each DVD. It helps me:
- remember what is available in my collection: yes of course we have the wonderful SOLO, the university catalogue (which has all my items in, well almost...) but it is great to have the item in hand because, believe it or not, you get queries like "do you have this book, you know?, it is a blue book" It is pleasant, then, to finally find that book
- determine if I can "let go" of some items (some impromptu weeding of collection)
- and, some last point, determine what I could buy to replace that item
